The Last of Us movie is in development hell, according to Neil Druckmann

The Last of Us movie Neil Druckmann Maisie Williams

It's been over a year since we heard anything about THE LAST OF US movie, with creator/screenwriter Neil Druckmann saying of the film adaptation of the popular video game: "Just finished the second draft and we did a table read with a bunch of actors and that's where we're at...." Sounded encouraging, especially considering it looked for all the world that they had their lead in the form of Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams. But no movement on the project in the past 13 months is cause for concern, yes? Yes.

In an interview with IGN, Druckmann dropped the bad news that THE LAST OF US is in something of a holding pattern right now. In fact, there's hardly any news to report at all:

I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do. There hasn't been any work done on it in over a year and a half."

Sam Raimi was on board to produce THE LAST OF US and as far as we know, that's still the case. But this hopes for this one getting off the ground soon have just taken a big hit; we likely won't be receiving a movie charting the adventures of Joel and Ellie for a while.
