INT: Timur Bekmambetov

JoBloJoBlo

There are some directors that create a film which has a whole lot of buzz, but the next couple of films out, we find that they really put everything into that one lucky bit of magic and have nothing left to say. And even though Timur Bekmambetov had done NIGHT WATCH and DAY WATCH, and really isn’t known for much more than that in the States, he is not a one hit wonder director. Timur created some unbelievable magic with both of those films and seems to have a very wicked visual style. Luckily, he has a new flick staring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy called WANTED to show that this man knows his action.

I recently sat down with Timur at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. I had heard a few say that he was the kind of guy that would give a very short answer and leave you hanging a bit. But I found him to be just as interesting as the movies he made. We talked about WANTED, the original graphic novels and of course, the casting. It was a fun conversation although afterwards I asked him about TWILIGHT WATCH (or DUSK WATCH if you prefer) and it doesn’t look like they will be happening soon… if ever… sad, sad news. But you can check out WANTED, opening this Friday at a theatre near you.
