Isla Fisher Interview

Isla Fisher, best known for her roles in Wedding Crashers, Confessions of a Shopaholic, and Now You See Me, is lending her voice to the dangerously cute poisonous snake with a heart of gold, Maddie, in the Netflix animated film Back to the Outback. The film serves as a bit of a love letter to Australia and who better to lead this love letter than an actress who has deep ties to Australia.

In Back to the Outback, tired of being locked in a reptile house where humans gawk at them like they’re monsters, a group of Australia’s deadliest creatures plots a daring escape from their zoo in the Outback. The film also features the vocal talent of Tim Minchin, Eric Bana, Guy Pearce, Miranda Tapsell, Angus Imrie, Keith Urban, and Jacki Weaver.

Isla Fisher was as lovely as you’d imagine and you can tell that this film meant a lot to her because of its ties to Australia. During our interview, Fisher revealed that she did the film while on lockdown and, since she was feeling especially homesick, this film made her feel closer to a place she holds dear. Fisher also discussed finding the character of Maddie and the film’s message of just because someone might seem different, doesn’t mean they’re scary. This is a message that she feels kids should definitely learn and I wholeheartedly agree.

Back to the Outback is now streaming on Netflix!
