Jon M. Chu will return to direct G.I. Joe 3

JoBloJoBlo

Despite less than glowing reviews and lower domestic box office than THE RISE OF COBRA, G.I. JOE: RETALIATION is looked at as a success due to better worldwide grosses than the first film. We knew a third movie was coming, but now we know for certain that the next movie will retain the same director in Jon M. Chu.

Deadline reports that Chu will return to helm the currently untitled third G.I. JOE movie thanks to his success with RETALIATION. We all watched as G.I. JOE: RETALIATION was pulled from theaters a week before release in 2012 for what we soon learned was a 3D conversion to boost international box office. Despite a delay of nine months to this past March, RETALIATION still did better than projected.

With the stigma of rebooting an awful film off of his shoulders, Chu can play in the world he created and introduce new characters. Screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have already teased a return for The Baroness, so who knows who we may see in the third installment. It is assumed we will see Roadblock come back as Dwayne Johnson has voiced his willingness to return, but with his schedule filling up that may prove difficult.

Anyone excited for G.I. JOE 3?
