John Woo on The Killer remake losing Lupita Nyong’o and Face/Off reboot

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

So apparently, Mr. John Woo is still keen on directing a remake of his THE KILLER, however I was unaware that Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o was attached to star. Well, that second part no longer matters because according to the director, she had to leave the project:

“There was a scheduling problem because she’s so popular right now!” said Woo about Nyong’o’s exit. “We rewrote the script and it took so much time…she had to leave for another project.”

That kinda stinks because Nyong'o, in my humble opinion, would have been awesome in the role! Woo now needs to find a new face… and speaking of faces… Paramount had recently stated their plans to reboot John Woo's supercharged action vehicle FACE/OFF which starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. Unfortunately for those hoping that Woo would be helming the reboot, he revealed that he wasn’t informed about the studio's plans and won’t be involved in it. However, he did actually come up with a sequel idea a while ago and is still glad there is a new version being created from his own masterpiece (and yes, that movie IS a f*cking masterpiece!).

Lastly, I guess we're going for the trifecta in disappointing John Woo news because we also learned that he was also asked a long time ago by master Stan Lee to do a superhero movie (pre-MCU) and Woo said no. More precisely, here's what he said:

“I don’t have that gift,” he admitted. “I’m not a sci-fi guy — I don’t think I could make a good one. There’s so much imagination… I don’t think I can reach that level.”

I respectfully disagree, but it ain't up to me! While we're working on Woo, I'd like to ask how many of you saw and enjoyed his other John Travolta-starring actioner, BROKEN ARROW? Feel free to comment below.
