Mangled again…

Tobe Hooper’s THE MANGLER will go down in horror history as striking the fear in everyone who uses an industrial laundry machine- and it gave us a side of Robert Englund that we normally don’t see (like his face, without the make-up). Of course, THE MANGLER 2, minus Hooper and Englund, but with Lance Henriksen- was cinematic trash in every aspect of the word- utterly forgettable by the few of us who actually sat through it.

But there’s good news yet! Writing/directing team Matt Cunningham and Erik Gardner are in the process of penning THE MANGLER REBORN for Barnholtz Entertainment, about a man and his machine, featuring obsession, possession and the hunger of human flesh!

Apparently their trying to get back to the orginals roots, as Cunningham goes on to explain: “[We’re] going back more toward the concept of the original Stephen King short story with a few little twists in there. It’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets a J-Horror film. Real dark and gritty.”

Imagine that? Sticking with a formula that made the first film work so well! Lions Gate, our friend in the horror business, will likely distribute sometime late 2005 (Halloween perhaps?). If they can hit what they’re aiming for, this one will surely bring the franchise back. Hooper won’t be returning to direct, but Cunningham and Gardner are hoping for the chance- and we’re all hoping it won’t be another MANGLER 2.
