Martin joins Moneyball

JoBloJoBlo

Here’s a question: How does a young actor who has very little experience in films, know that he’s finally made it? How about being cast in a Steven Soderbergh film opposite Brad Pitt. That oughta do it right? So if Demetri Martin calls you or one of your friends to find out if he has in fact made it, you’ll know what to tell him.

Martin has been cast in the Soderbergh-directed feature MONEYBALL, which tells the story of real life Oakland Athletics GM Billy Beane, and his quest to put together a competitive team on a slim payroll. Martin will play Paul De Podesta, a Harvard grad who used his statistical skills to change baseball scouting tactics with a system known as “Earned Run Value”. Pitt will play Beane and former ball players David Justice, Darryl Strawberry and Lenny Dykstra will appear in the film as well.

Soderbergh’s adaptation of Michael Lewis’ book is one of the more curious projects currently on the go, with Soderbergh’s ability to blend documentary and drama sure to come into play. Martin, who has a hit show on the Comedy Network and the Ang Lee-directed TAKING WOODSTOCK on the way seems destined for an interesting career. Angelina, watch out. Brad has a history of falling for his co-stars.
