Michelle MacLaren exits Wonder Woman; “creative differences” cited as reason

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Why is it always "creative differences"? I've grown tired of hearing that whenever someone exits a project; why not surprise us and say "I left because the studio doesn't know what the heck they're doing" or "I've invented a real invisible jet so screw you guys"? Warner Bros. just suffered a blow to their upcoming WONDER WOMAN feature as THR has announced that director Michelle MacLaren has dropped out of the film citing…you guessed it…"creative differences."

A statement from the studio said:

Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together.

WONDER WOMAN would have been Michelle MacLaren's first feature-film (edit: MacLaren's first feature was actually a 2006 film by the name of POPULATION 436 which starred Jeremy Sisto and Fred Durst, my mistake) but the director is certainly no newbie; she's been very active in the TV world having directed memorable episodes of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, The Leftovers, and most recently, Better Call Saul. Her hire last November was the result of many months of searching for a director who could handle bringing the Amazonian super-heroine to life. In addition to directing the film, Michelle MacLaren also had a hand in developing the story and script so It's unclear at the moment how her departure will affect the film.

WONDER WOMAN is still set to be released on June 23, 2017 so Warner Bros. is going to have to get a move on if they want to find a new director in time to give Wonder Woman her due.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is still looking for a director, perhaps a move to Marvel is in order?

Any ideas on who you'd like to take over directing duties on WONDER WOMAN?
