Arrow showrunner does not rule out Batman appearing on the CW series

Fans of DC Comics have reason to be excited. With the big screen slate set to begin unfolding next year with BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, the small screen exploits of THE FLASH and ARROW have shown that Marvel is not the only comic book brand worth a damn on screen. With the two CW series enjoying the crossover abilities put to use earlier this season, the question remains if we will see any big DC names appearing on the small screen any time soon.

While it seemed evident that DC was not allowing Batman or Superman to appear on the small screen DC series, ARROW showrunner Greg Guggenheim seems to still have some faith it could happen. In an article for The Hollywood Reporter, Guggenheim shared this about ARROW.

At the end of the day it'd be so awesome to have Batman on the show. That'd be really cool. I don't think that will be happening anytime soon, but you never know…one day. One thing we're always saying…we never expected to have had the Huntress [Jessica De Gouw], Deathstroke [Manu Bennett] or Deadshot [Michael Rowe]; we ended up with a lot more DC Comics characters becoming part of the show than we had ever planned. It wasn't initially part of the pitch or the conception of the show. Now here we are in our third season and we've Flash [Grant Gustin] and the Suicide Squad and we're going to have Katana and we have Ray Palmer [Brandon Routh], and it seems like you could field an entire show off the characters that we have introduced on Arrow. That's so beyond anything we expected. That's a long-winded way of saying I've learned not to expect anything or make any predictions because the reality has far exceeded any of our initial predictions or initial conceptions.

While this is far from a confirmation that we will see The Dark Knight on ARROW, it does open the door for it to happen sometime in the future. Granted, with GOTHAM airing on FOX it would make more sense to see Batman appear in his own origin story before the story of a different hero, stranger things have happened. Personally, I like that ARROW and THE FLASH are not being overshadowed by the top tier DC heroes but I would love to see them all on the screen at the same time. I guess I have to wait for JUSTICE LEAGUE.

ARROW returns with new episodes on The CW beginning January 21st.
