Bird Box trailer: Sandra Bullock fights for survival while blindfolded

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

In the new movie BIRD BOX, Sandra Bullock is trying to keep her children safe from an unknown force that, if you see it, you die. That means blindfolds at all times and absolutely no peeking. The first trailer for the movie is here and finds the world falling into shambles, and eventually, Bullock and her children must take up shelter with other survivors, including Lil Rel Howery (GET OUT), Trevante Rhodes (THE PREDATOR) and the one and only John Malkovich

Between not being able to make any noise in A QUIET PLACE to not being able to see in BIRD BOX it’s becoming quite hard to do basic human functions in these sci-fi/horror/thrillers. The movie from director Susanne Bier (IN A BETTER WORLD) and writer Eric Heisserer (ARRIVAL) certainly boasts an impressive cast and looks like it has a clever premise, but based on this trailer, I don’t know if it’s trying to be a smart, suspenseful thriller or a fast-paced sci-fi action flick. It looks more like the latter, which is fine, but I hope the big cast has more to do than just be kill fodder in a movie that has some strong THE HAPPENING vibes.

Here is the synopsis:

When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life.  Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel.  Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they'll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded.

BIRD BOX also stars Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Danielle Macdonald, Tom Hollander, Colson Baker, BD Wong, and Sarah Paulson and arrives on Netflix and in select theaters on December 21.
