Dwayne Johnson is in The Rock mode in Fighting With My Family trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

MGM has released the first trailer for the new movie FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY, the true story of the wrestler Paige who went from wrestling with her family to the big times in the WWE. Directed and written by Stephen Merchant (LOGAN, EXTRAS), the comedy about an eccentric family and one member’s launch into the big time is a production by WWE Studios, Misher Films and Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions, with Johnson also having a key role in the movie. You can watch the first trailer above, which features plenty of comedy, suplexes and Johnson dishing out some of The Rock’s best bits. Ah, memories.

I have loved Merchant’s work in the past with Ricky Gervais, including THE OFFICE and EXTRAS, and I’m curious to see how he handles his first feature film directorial since co-directing CEMETARY JUNCTION with Gervais in 2010. The cast looks great, with Florence Pugh as Saraya "Paige" Bevis, and Lena Headey, Nick Frost, Jack Lowden, Vince Vaughn, and Johnson fleshing out the rest of the cast. Between all the wrestling and energetic performances this looks like a pretty entertaining biopic, which should be made all the better thanks to the presence of the Most Electrifying Man in Sport’s Entertainment.

Here’s the plot synopsis:

Based on a true story, FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY follows reformed gangster Ricky, wife Julia, daughter Paige and son Zak as they make a living wrestling together in tiny venues. When Paige and Zak get the opportunity to try out for WWE, the family grabs a once-in-a-lifetime chance to turn their wildest dreams into a dazzling future. However, brother and sister quickly discover that to become superstars, both their talent and their relationship will be put to the test. FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY is a heartwarming and smart comedy that proves everything is worth fighting for when it comes to family.
