Edgar Wright teases a new film, says a Baby Driver sequel script exists

It's been revealed that the Cornetto trilogy filmmaker, Edgar Wright, will be featured as a part of Empire's upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL issue. In addition to sharing exclusive interviews with Hollywood's 2019 front-runners, such as Olivia Colman, Adam McKay, Berry Jenkins, Regina King, and Ethan Hawke, the publication set to hit newsstands on Thursday, January 24th, also offers an eye-opening interview with Wright, in which he unveils his next film project as well as an update on the status of a BABY DRIVER sequel.

After filtering the magazine's content a bit, we find a portion of the interview in which Wright reveals that his next project will indeed be an honest to goodness psychological thriller. Unfortunately, Wright was reluctant to say much else about the film, other than that Roman Polanski's REPULSION and Nicolas Roeg's DON'T LOOK NOW influenced its creation. He also stated that the mysterious thriller will be set in London, and that it will feature a female lead.

“I realised I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years,” Wright told Empire. “With Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead you make movies about places you’ve lived in. This movie is about the London I’ve existed in.”

As of this time, Wright's psychological thriller pic remains untitled, though cameras are set to roll on the project this summer, with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (PENNY DREADFUL) having co-written the screenplay.

As exciting as the prospect of a Wright-branded psychological thriller might be, fans of the SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD director are undoubtedly eager for an update on the rumored sequel to 2017's musically-charged crime drama, BABY DRIVER. Thankfully, Wright confirmed to Empire that “a first draft of Baby Driver 2 exists.” Wright then added that the follow-up will "take the story further," by introducing a raft of new characters to the fast-paced, pedal to the metal premise.
