Hans Zimmer to compose the score for Wonder Woman 1984

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Back in 2016, Hans Zimmer announced that he had officially retired from the superhero business after BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. "I did BATMAN BEGINS with Chris [Nolan] 12 years ago so TDK trilogy might be 3 movies to you, to me it was 11 years of my life," Zimmer said. "Then I did [MAN OF STEEL] and then I did this one. I have officially retired from the superhero business. It's just me. This one was very hard for me to do. To try to find new language." Zimmer later backtracked on those remarks, saying that he'd return to the genre if the movie was "amazing," and it seems that the upcoming WONDER WOMAN 1984 might just fit the bill.

According to Hans-Zimmer.com and Film Music Reporter, the prolific composer is set to pen the score for Patty Jenkins' WONDER WOMAN 1984. Although Zimmer sat out JUSTICE LEAGUE and the first WONDER WOMAN film, he did compose the fantastic theme for Gal Gadot's character in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE with some help from cellist Tina Guo, so he's definitely got some experience with the Amazon warrior. Rupert Gregson-Williams (AQUAMAN) provided the score for the first WONDER WOMAN film, but it's not clear why he won't be returning once again. WONDER WOMAN 1984 isn't the only superhero project which Hans Zimmer has on his slate as Evan Peters let it slip earlier this year that Zimmer would be scoring X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX as well. Other upcoming projects include Steve McQueen's WIDOWS and Jon Favreau's THE LION KING.

Are you excited to see Hans Zimmer return for WONDER WOMAN 1984?

WONDER WOMAN 1984 is set for a November 1, 2019 release.
