Here’s the detailed synopsis for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s midseason premiere

As Marvel's AGENT CARTER winds down to it's series/season finale next week, the second half of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. is gearing up. With the December cliffhanger episode seemingly transforming Skye and Raina into Inhumans, the build-up of the story over the next dozen weeks will have major repercussions for the Marvel Cinematic Universe leading into Phase Three.

For those of you who haven't been keeping up, the mysteries surrounding Skye and Phil Coulson have been coming to a head with the rest of this season taking a dramatic shift away from the workings of S.H.I.E.L.D. and into full-blown superhero/comic book machinations. Marvel has unveiled the full synopsis for next week's mid-season premiere titled "Aftershocks" and it is a doozy.

After discovering an alien city with ties to his resurrection, Coulson and his team destroyed it before the forces of Hydra could claim its secrets, eliminating the villainous Whitehall (Reed Diamond) in the process. But new threats to the world have arisen, including Skye's father, Cal (Kyle McLachlan), who now seeks retribution against Coulson for stealing his revenge against Whitehall; a disturbing alliance between former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Ward (Brett Dalton) and Agent 33; the enigmatic Raina (Ruth Negga), who struggles with her transformation into something inhuman by the alien Obelisk and seeks vengeance; and Skye (Chloe Bennet), who developed mysterious new powers from the Obelisk but whose lack of experience with her new abilities may threaten the safety of those she loves.

Meanwhile, Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) and Mack (Henry Simmons) begin the next phase of a plan which seems to have grave repercussions for Coulson and his team, who are unaware that there's another mysterious force moving against them. And as Hunter (Nick Blood) is forced to make the biggest choice of his life, Coulson will find his mission threatened by this shocking endgame.

Knowing that Mockingbird is sticking with the team is nice as she has grown into one of the more solid additions to the roster, but I like that the weak Whitehall character and the remnants of HYDRA are being switched with Kyle McLachlan's much more intriguing foe. In the pages of Marvel Comics, he is none other than Mr. Hyde, so here's hoping we see him develop into that persona before season's end.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. has improved dramatically since last season and if the final run of episodes this year can rival the same time season, we are in for quite a treat. AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on March 3rd.
