Hugh Jackman reteaming with Shawn Levy for action film from Lost producer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I don’t know about you guys, but I really like Hugh Jackman. I’ve loved his work as Wolverine, heartily enjoyed THE PRESTIGE and while THE FOUNTAIN did nothing critically or commercially, I still have a soft spot in my heart for that film. But I’m not sure I understand his collaborations with Shawn Levy. Jackman has the upcoming robot boxing film REAL STEEL on the way from the DATE NIGHT director and now has signed a deal for another project with Levy.

Jackman is set to star in an untitled action-adventure project written by former “Lost” showrunner Carlton Cuse that Levy will direct for Fox. The film is being developing as a big summer tentpole movie.

Despite never directing a good movie, Levy has attracted an impressive list of stars for his films including Ben Stiller, Steve Martin, Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Amy Adams and an upcoming project with Robert Downey, Jr. Meanwhile his films have an average Rotten Tomato rating of 39.5%. Granted the NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM movies have made a ton of cash but is that all it takes to get A-list actors lined up to work with you?

I’m about as excited for THE WOLVERINE, Jackman’s pairing with director Darren Aronofsky on the standalone superhero film, as any comic book movie in recent memory. But in-between the X-MEN films, me thinks Jackman needs to make some slightly better choices. I have faith in Cuse but until Levy shows me something, I’ll never be a believer.
