Idris Elba now set to star as the villain of the Fast and Furious spinoff

Shortly after revealing that THE CROWN's Vanessa Kirby will be joining Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham for their Fast & Furious spinoff, HOBBS AND SHAW, it's been announced that Idris Elba (LUTHER, THE DARK TOWER) is in final negotiations to star as the lead villain of the upcoming action blockbuster.

For the film set to be helmed by David Leitch (DEADPOOL 2, ATOMIC BLONDE), Johnson and Statham will be reprising their roles as special agent Luke Hobbs and criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw, respectively. Fast & Furious alum Chris Morgan is in the midst of writing the script, with the film set to go into production this fall.

Whoa! Is it just me or does adding Elba to the mix feel like the equivalent of the film's casting directors, Marisol Roncali and Mary Vernieu, pouring Liquid Schwartz into the tank of this highly-anticipated spinoff? Of course, Elba is no stranger to playing a baddie on the big screen. In recent times, the dashing English actor starred as the villain Krall for STAR TREK BEYOND, and voiced the role of Shere Khan in Jon Favreau’s live-action adaptation of THE JUNGLE BOOK for Disney.

How Elba's character will enter the fray has yet to be revealed, though he's expected to give both Hobbs and Shaw one hell of a run for their money in the upcoming Fast spinoff. Sound off in the comments section below with your thoughts about Elba joining the cast.
