James Franco wants to direct another Cormac McCarthy adaptation

James Franco is a man of many projects. I have no issue with this whatsoever.

At the beginning of the year, Franco really wanted to direct an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian”. There was really no update on the issue after it was initially brought up. However, at TIFF this year the question was asked if Franco was actually going to do the adaptation. This is what he said:

“We shot a 20 minute test of it (Blood Meridian) that turned out pretty well… we were gearing up to do the feature but that for various reasons is on hold, but we are going to make a movie based on his (Cormac McCarthy’s) third book Child Of God.”

So on top of doing “Blood Meridian”, he also wants to do “Child of God”. I don’t blame him. McCarthy created some great literary material to work with.

Here’s a summary of “Child of God”: “Set in mountainous Servier Sounty, Tennessee Child of God tells the story of Lester Ballard, a dispossessed, violent man whom the narrator describes as “a child of God much like yourself perhaps.” Ballard’s life is a disastrous attempt to exist outside the social order. Successively deprived of parents and homes and with few other ties, Ballard descends literally and figuratively to the level of a cave dweller as he falls deeper into crime and degradation.”
