John Boyega teases the return of a familiar Jaeger in Pacific Rim 2

After years of wondering and waiting we will finally be treated to a sequel to the robot-monster bash flick, PACIFIC RIM. The second film, titled PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING, won’t see a complete return of the full cast, with the main star, Charlie Hunnam, turning in his fancy robot suit for a coat made out of…I wanna say rabbit. But not everything will be brand-spanking new, and apparently we can look forward to seeing the return of a very dear friend.

Star John Boyega, who has taken to social media several times to relay his excitement for the project, has done it again by putting a picture on Instagram of the battle-worn Jaeger, Gipsy Danger, hinting the robo-badass’ appearance in the film.

Take a look at the surprisingly elegant photo below!

For those scratching your head as to which robot this exactly was from the first one you should feel silly because it was the one on every poster and DVD box for the film, and was piloted to monster-crushing glory by Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi. Of course it will be awhile before we know the exact specifics of the plot, but I have a feeling the robot will be in a somewhat retired mode during the movie, before having to be broken out to prove old school is cool school during the climax. That, or it's being used as a load bearing wall. Who can say.

I know a lot of people who did not like the first film. Some parts were just too cheesy for them, and surprisingly enough they felt it skimped on the robo-mayhem. The movie itself failed to make as much at the box office as hoped with a $411 global total off a near $200 million budget. But I had a blast with the movie because how can you not? Robots punching Godzilla-like monsters, and Idris Elba giving the most badass speech ever are enough for the runtime alone. As for the image I'm excited to see the ol' girl back in action…even if it only has a tape deck.

PACIFIC RIM is set for February 23, 2018.
