Kevin Feige hopes to put Collector & Grandmaster in a movie together

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

We don’t know much about what will happen in the MCU beyond the fourth AVENGERS movie, as Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has kept mum on the details. He has let something slip in regard to what he wants to see in the future, though, and that includes more of the eccentric, eternal brothers – The Collector (Benicio Del Toro) and The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum).

Feige spoke with Fandango recently to promote THOR: RAGNAROK, which features a very Goldbum-y Goldblum in a major supporting role as Grandmaster, the ruler of Sakaar, where Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is taken captive and forced to square off against Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). People are loving the movies, and the actor in it, but seeing the character with his brother (who appeared in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) is something Feige very much wants to see on the big screen:

It would be awesome man. It would be great. We love the idea that they're brothers. If you go on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout attraction at California Adventure in Anaheim, you will see a picture on Collector's wall of he and the Grandmaster playing some sort of a space chess game, which right now is the only place you can see the two of them in a frame together, but let's hope that changes someday.

Here is the photo Feige is referring to:

Though the Guardians of the Galaxy have never crossed paths with The Grandmaster on film, characters in the THOR movies have come face-to-face with Collector, when in the THOR: THE DARK WORLD mid-credits scene Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and Volstagg (Ray Stevenson) delivered the Aether to Collector, so that he may keep it safe (which he will likely turn in to Thanos). On that note, it’s not impossible to think the Guardians of Thor may come into contact with Collector and Grandmaster in another space adventure.

I have yet to see RAGNAROK, but Goldblum looks as great as ever based on the trailers. Putting together Del Toro’s quietly quirky Collector next to Goldblum’s, er, Goldblum in space clothes, would make for an amazing moment in Marvel history. What makes it easy to accomplish is that it doesn’t need to be big or important. Just a scene or two would do and our cravings would be satisfied. Or, better yet, could we hope for a buddy road movie across the galaxy?
