Looks like Johnny Depp and The Lone Ranger will ride after all

Hi-Yo, Silver, or what?

Disney’s big-screen, big-budget version of THE LONE RANGER has been in and out of the stable in the last few months as the project tried to rope in an exorbitant budget. But apparently the principal talent and the studio have finally wrangled the price tag to something acceptable.

Deadline says that everyone “is likely to have everything resolved by next week, and can start rehiring crew so that the picture will be ready to begin production in January or February.”

Johnny Depp will wear the headband of faithful sidekick Tonto while Armie Hammer slips on the mask of the titular pulp hero, and director Gore Verbinski (without whom Depp would have walked) will handle the pricey Old West adventure. British actress Ruth Wilson (BBC’s “Luther”) is expected to play the female lead in the Jerry Bruckheimer production.

It remains to be seen if the film’s initial release date of Dec. 21, 2012 (or the bizarre idea to have the duo battling werewolves) is still part of the plan.
