Lucy Liu to direct Luke Cage season 2 premiere

Yes, you read that headline right, it seems Lucy Liu - yes, that Lucy Liu - will direct the premiere episode of Marvel's Netflix series LUKE CAGE. Here's the blurb from Marvel:

Marvel Television and Netflix announced that multiple award-winning actress and director, Lucy Liu (“Elementary,” Graceland”) is directing the premiere episode of the second season of the Netflix original series “Marvel’s Luke Cage,” set to premiere in 2018. All 13-episodes of the first season of “Marvel’s Luke Cage” are now streaming on Netflix. In addition to a slew of television and film credits, Liu made her directorial debut in 2011’s short film, Meena and also directed four episodes of the CBS series, “Elementary.”

And here's what showrunner Jeph Loeb had to say about offering her the gig:

When you’re dealing with a bulletproof man, it helps if you have a bulletproof Director...Lucy brings a keen eye, a superb sense of story, and an obvious love of actors. She is rocking Luke Cage 2.

Now, I'm more surprised than worried or excited. I have to admit, I haven't seen ELEMENTARY, nor her short film MEENA, so I can't comment on her directing skills. But I'm willing to believe that whatever she's done was enough to impress the showrunners, since while it's cool to have more female directors, TV actually has a larger ratio than film does in that regard. So I have faith she'll do a good job.

Meanwhile, LUKE CAGE season 2 is slated to start streaming on Netflix next year.

Extra Tidbit: I'm still curious to see what Quentin Tarantino's 90s LUKE CAGE film would've looked like.
