MACHETE KILLS is quickly picking up steam in advance of its planned “sometime-this-month” start date, with the recent confirmation of Michelle Rodriguez’s return and the news that both Amber Heard (DRIVE ANGRY 3D) and Demian Bichir (A BETTER LIFE) have elected to join an already-eclectic cast that includes Tom Savini, Jessica Alba, Danny Trejo, and possibly Michelle Williams.

Oh, and Mel Gibson.  When the news first broke that he was joining the production, we didn’t know the name of his character or even if he would be friend or foe to Machete.  But now we do, as the casting/plot description involving Amber Heard’s character tells us exactly what he’ll be doing.  “Ex-federale (Trejo) is recruited by the U.S. government to stop an arms dealer (Gibson) from launching a deadly missile. Heard will play a manipulative assassin code-named Miss San Antonio.”

So there you have it.  Now it is Bichir’s role that remains under wraps, though we’ll surely know sooner rather than later considering how soon production is set to start.
