Per THR, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND director Michel Gondry has been tapped to direct an adaptation of Jonathan Lethem's novel "As She Climbed Across the Table" for Amazon Studios and Chernin Entertainment. Joe Penhall, who created Netflix's Mindhunter series, is also onboard to write the script for the romantic sci-fi film which revolves around a rather peculiar love triangle.

The project certainly sounds right up Michel Gondry's alley as "As She Climbed Across the Table" deals with a love triangle between a man, a woman, and a black hole. Huh. "Mixing physics, alternate realities, and ideas of scientific objectivity with the quirkiness and obsessive nature of love, ["As She Climbed Across the Table"] tells of a scientist Alice who, along with her colleague, have created a black hole that they name Lack," reads THR's description. "Lack is a very selective about what it sucks into its void, accepting some objects, rejecting others. To Alice, this selectivity translates into an irresistible personality. To Phillip, Alice’s ex-boyfriend, the void becomes a rival lover, spurring on feeling of intense jealousy as he embarks on a nigh-impossible, and multi-universal, quest to win her back."

It's been a few years since Gondry's last feature-film, MICROBE & GASOLINE, so it will be nice to see him return to the big-screen. Gondray's most recent project was actually on the small-screen as he directed and executive produced Kidding, a Showtime comedy/drama that starred Jim Carrey as Jeff Piccirillo, a beloved children's TV icon known as Mr. Pickles who faced great difficulty following a personal tragedy. Showtime cancelled the series earlier this summer after two seasons.
