New BOP set pics reveal a new look for Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

A Twitter account by the name of Harley Quinn Updates has revealed a behind-the-scenes look at one of Margot Robbie's new outfits for Harley Quinn as a part of Cathy Yan's BIRDS OF PREY (AND THE FANTABULOUS EMANCIPATION OF ONE HARLEY QUINN). Robbie created quite a stir on the internet yesterday, upon sharing an all-too-brief but tantalizing teaser video for Warner Bros. and DC's upcoming female-centric superhero movie. In the clip, which featured brief looks at several of the film's key players, Robbie could be seen wearing an outrageous outfit that had Daddy's Little Monster looking like a fabulous runway model from the wrong side of the tracks. With a frou-frou drink in hand, Harley's outfit was comprised of a lemonade pink tank, red suspenders, a sterling silver choker, and streamer-laden arms that would make Bjork's fashion-savvy senses explode with envy.

In the new and unofficial photos posted by Harley Quinn Updates, we see Robbie wearing what looks like a more circus-centric outfit, complete with a glittery cape, striped, sequined-encrusted pants, star decals on her abdomen, a royal blue top, and is that a robin's egg blue fez? Hmmm, maybe it's an I Dream of Genie-style hair wrap? If you ask me, it looks as if Harley stole the clothes off an organ grinder monkey, altered the measurements, then rocked that business like only Gotham's Pumpkin-Pie can … and will.

In BOP-related news, Warner Bros. recently reached out to our own Paul Shirey with regard to BOP's rumored R-rating. You see, when Robbie first pitched the film to Warners and DC, she had envisioned the project as an "R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, ‘Harley needs friends.’ Harley loves interacting with people, so don’t ever make her do a standalone film. She’s got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn’t seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it." However, after a quick email exchange with the studio, Shirey received word directly from the WB that stated: There is NO confirmed rating on Birds of Prey.

You can see Paul's original tweet debunking the rumor below:

After splitting up with the Joker, BIRDS OF PREY finds Harley Quinn joining three female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya – to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord. Set to play Helena Bertinelli aka Huntress is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, while Juree Smollett-Bell will play Dinah Lance aka Black Canary, with Rosie Perez stepping into the role of Renee Montoya. Rounding out the main players of the film are Ewan McGregor as the villainous Black Mask and Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz.

What do you think of Harley's new duds? Are you bummed that BOP will likely be rated PG-13, once all is said and done? Let us know in the comments section below.

BIRDS OF PREY (AND THE FANTABULOUS EMANCIPATION OF ONE HARLEY QUINN) is scheduled for a February 7, 2020 theatrical debut.
