New trailer for Tim Burton’s Dumbo soars right into your heart

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Disney has been teasing their soon-to-be record-breaking year this week with two new teasers for the highly-anticipated TOY STORY 4 (one of which gave the world Forky), and now they’re going straight for the heart with the first full trailer for DUMBO. The latest live-action remake comes from Tim Burton and is based on one of Disney’s oldest classics, and like with the teaser we get plenty of soulful music and heartwarming visuals of the adorable, blue-eyed Dumbo in some sad clown makeup. It’s the kind of trailer that acts as a litmus test for your emotional capacity, so though I’m not saying it should make you cry, but if your heartstrings aren’t tugged at least a tad then maybe you should do some soul-searching.

This will be Burton’s first live-action Disney directorial effort since his ALICE IN WONDERLAND movie in 2010, which back then cracked $1 billion and was one of the biggest movies ever made. Disney has been on a bit of a roll at the box office recently (with SOLO being the disappointing stepchild), and DUMBO could be Burton’s biggest outing since ALICE almost a decade ago. One other big reason for that is the movie, above all, looks effing adorable, and everyone is going to want to see this big-eared baby elephant take flight. Along with CAPTAIN MARVEL that same month, the movie kicks off what will be the studio’s biggest year ever, one that includes AVENGERS 4, ALADDIN, TOY STORY 4, SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME (with Sony), THE LION KING, ARTEMIS FOWL, FROZEN 2 and STAR WARS EPISODE IX.

Here’s the synopsis:

From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, the all-new grand live-action adventure "Dumbo" expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.
