Nicole Kidman fights her past in brutal Destroyer trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Nicole Kidman’s work in Karyn Kusama’s DESTROYER became one of the most talked-about performances of the year after the movie screened at TIFF last month. After earning wide-spread acclaim she’s now very much in play for this year’s Oscar race, delivering what many are calling her best performance yet. You can get a glimpse at her work in the new trailer for the movie, and in it, she’s unrecognizable and unhinged in what looks like a searing dramatic thriller.

The movie as a whole has been earning rave reviews, as critics hail it as a brutal story of a detective coming face to face with her grim past, guided expertly by Kusama’s unflinching hand. The movie certainly does look like an engaging, visceral experience, and you don’t even need to look beyond the trailer to see that Kidman is turning in some of her best work here. She’s totally transformed into this hard-edged detective, and I think this will be a performance that has people talking for the rest of the year.

Our own Chris Bumbray listed the movie as his favorite coming out of TIFF, citing Kidman’s work as the best she’s ever done. “It’s an unforgettable crime epic from a perspective I can truly say is unique,” he wrote in his review. “It’s a new classic of the genre and one of the best films of the year.”

The film also stars Sebastian Stan, Toby Kebbell, Tatiana Maslany, Bradley Whitford, Jade Pettyjohn and Scoot McNairy.
