Production is underway on Terminator: Genesis, but still no plot details

Another major 2015 release has gone into production and we have just slightly more information on it that we do for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. Namely, we know who will be starring in TERMINATOR: GENESIS.

The production announcement was made today via the official Skydance Productions Facebook page with the following comment.

::SKYNET preparation routines complete.
::Initialization sequence complete.
::Reboot initiating in 03m00s.

Production got underway on the fifth entry in the TERMINATOR franchise and the first one since RISE OF THE MACHINES to feature Arnold Schwarzenegger. This sequel/reboot of the James Cameron-created series is also being planned as the first in a new trilogy that will star GAME OF THRONES' Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor alongside Jason Clarke, Dayo Okeniji, J.K. Simmons, Sandrine Holt, Byung-hun Lee, and Jai Courtney. Revisiting the events of the original THE TERMINATOR, Alan Taylor's film will somehow sidestep some of the events of the existing franchise without ignoring the events. How that works in the screenplay remains to be seen.

Simply getting Arnold Schwarzenegger back into the mix should make TERMINATOR: GENESIS at least a curiosity. Alan Taylor proved he can handle some major action sequences with last year’s THOR: THE DARK WORLD, so let’s hope that translates to this film as well. TERMINATOR: GENESIS is slated for release on July 1, 2015.
