R.L. Stine’s It’s the First Day of School…Forever! will get the big screen treatment

I don’t know what I would have done without R.L. Stine’s books. There’s still even a spot on my bookshelf filled with many of his titles. Even now I often want to go back and revisit the children’s horror books I came to love so much. When I hear that another one of Stine’s books has been optioned for the big screen, this makes me happy. Well, as long as it doesn’t turn out like anything from the GOOSEBUMPS television series.

One of Stine’s newest books, “It’s the First Day of School…Forever!” has been optioned by the Gotham Group (producers behind ABDUCTION starring Taylor Lautner) for the feature film treatment. The book tells the story of, “12-year-old Artie, whose second day at his new school is exactly like his first, which just happened to be the worst day of his life. The boy finds himself reliving the same horrible day and must find a way to change his nightmare.” The book will hit shelves in July.

The Gotham Group gave their vision for the adaptation as, “a thoroughly reimagined Diary of a Wimpy Kid meets Groundhog Day,” also saying it combines the elements that have made Stine a household name among the kid-lit set, namely horror and humor.” Gotham will soon attach a writer before shopping the project to studios.
