Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone in talks to star in boxing film Grudge Match

You would think that a clash of fists between Rocky Balboa and Jake LaMotta would yield some potentially great sports drama, right? Yeah, well, instead we’re gonna be getting a boxing comedy from the director of ANGER MANAGEMENT. Because that’s exactly what people would want to see from these two.

The film is called GRUDGE MATCH from director Peter Segal and TheWrap is reporting that Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone are in negotiations to join the comedic sports project. The film is about “two retired boxers who return to the ring for a final grudge match.” While it has yet to be officially greenlit, the movie is a “go” project at Warner Bros. and is expected to begin filmming early next year. The latest draft comes from “Entourage” creator Doug Ellin. DAREDEVIL director Mark Steven Johnson is producing. So many great creative names!

Before Sly and Bobby D can throw barbs and jabs at one another, they first gotta get through a good number of other projects. Stallone of course has THE EXPENDABLES 2 as well as BULLET TO THE HEAD and THE TOMB opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. De Niro, meanwhile, has the David O. Russel flick SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK and the Sean Penn-directed drama THE COMEDIAN to name but a couple.
