Roman Polanski’s next will be a story from the stage.

Polanski is doing an adaptation of VENUS IN FUR, a dark erotic comedy based on the Broadway play from David Ives. The story centers on, “Vanda, a seemingly naïve and desperate actress trying to win over the aloof show director.” The leading roles have been played by Nina Arianda and Hugh Dancy. In the first run off-broadway, Wes Bentley was the original male lead. Arianda won a Tony last year for her performance as Vanda. Neither Arianda nor Dancy will be reprising their roles for the big screen version.

Polanski has cast his wife, Emmanuelle Seigner, and Louis Garrel in the actress and director roles. Polanski has been waiting for the right material to come along so he could direct his wife in a role, “I’ve been looking for a chance to make a film in French with Emmanuelle for a long time. Reading Venus in Fur, I realized the moment had arrived.” Polanski has not seen the Broadway adaptation.

VENUS IN FUR will start this November in Paris.
