Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s “cancer comedy” gets a release date and a new title

We haven’t heard much about Jonathan Levine’s pending “cancer comedy” starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt – formerly known as I’M WITH CANCER and LIVE WITH IT – for about a year. But now, Summit Entertainment has finally announced a release date for the picture as well as a brand new title: 50/50.

The film, to be released on September 30th this year, is written by television producer Will Reiser and is based on his own experiences battling the terrible disease. But while the subject tends to be dour unless we’re wishing it upon people we dislike and/or disagree with on the internet, the comedy will approach it in a fun and bittersweet way. JGL plays the afflicted while Rogen stars as his close friend (who in real life was there when Reiser went through the ordeal). Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Anjelica Huston round out the rest of the pretty terrific cast.

Along with multiple title changes, 50/50 also changed leads early last year. James McAvoy (soon to be seen as a young, walking Professor X) was originally slated to play the cancer-stricken 20-something before bowing out for personal reasons. JGL then took the lead with McAvoy’s blessing, and the rest… well, you just read it!
