Sherlock Holmes 2 gets Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace

Last month, Swedish sensation Noomi Rapace arrived in Hollywood to face more high-profile projects than she probably knew what to do with.

The star of the original film adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s bestselling Millennium Trilogy books (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, etc.) was immediately pursued for projects like MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4 (or whatever it’ll be titled), James McTeigue’s THE RAVEN and the Dracula movie LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER.

And while it does sound like might eventually join Jeremy Renner in HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, she has reportedly agreed to the biggest project presented to her — SHERLOCK HOLMES 2.

According to THR, she’ll be making her English-language debut as the film’s female lead (looks like Rachel McAdams is a memory), joining Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law as they battle Sherlock’s nemesis Professor Moriarty. Rumor is that Rapace’s character will be a French gypsy. Production on director Guy Ritchie’s sequel starts later this year.

The prominent role of antisocial hacker Lisbeth Salander, which Rapace previous inhabited, has been taken over by actress Rooney Mara for director David Fincher’s version of DRAGON TATTOO.
