I thought the Warner Bros. announcement of WATCHMEN’s 2009 release date was looking pretty far into the future but today DreamWorks announced a date three years away. The studio has already locked in May 10, 2010 for SHREK 4, which is currently in pre-production. It’ll be interesting to see if the kids that liked the first couple SHREKs because they were younger will still return for a fourth now that they’re in their late teens. Of course, there are plenty of adults that seem to enjoy the SHREK movies so what do I know? Nothing is known about SHREK 4 other than Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy will all be reprising their voiceover roles as Shrek, Fiona and Donkey. Here’s hoping that Pinocchio gets a return because he’s always been one of the my favorites too. So basically the DreamWorks animation slate looks something like this: BEE MOVIE in November; KUNG FU PANDA and MADAGASCAR 2 in 2008; MONSTERS VS. ALIENS in 2009; and SHREK 4 in 2010. Expect two more releases – fall entries for both 2009 and 2010 – to eventually be announced. At the current time it looks like those could be CROOD AWAKENING (the Aardman film left behind at DreamWorks) and HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON.
