Snake Eyes casts the real american ninja’s dad

Yo, Joe! We've just received a top-secret transmission via satellite that THE EXPANSE actor Steven Allerick is set to star in SNAKE EYES as the father of the silent-but-deadly ninja commando.

Okay, so maybe the report came from Deadline, but doesn't the other way sound so much cooler?

Directing the upcoming G.I. Joe spinoff is R.I.P.D. and INSURGENT helmer Robert Schwentke. The film will revolve around Snake Eyes, who while on the hunt for the man who murdered his father, travels to Japan and trains with the ancient Arashikage ninja clan. Leading the cast will be CRAZY RICK ASIANS actor Henry Golding as Snakes Eyes, with Samara Weaving (READY OR NOT, THE BABYSITTER) as Scarlett, Ursula Corbero (SNATCH, MONEY HEIST) as The Baroness, and Andrew Koji (WARRIOR, FURIOUS 6) as Snake Eyes' brother and nemesis, Storm Shadow.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Erik Howsam, Brian Goldner, Greg Mooradian will produce with Paramount looking to reboot the G.I. Joe brand for audiences old and new.

Made popular by Hasbro's G.I. Joe toyline and animated television series, Snakes Eyes is a stealthy ninja who slinks through the shadows in his pitch black armor. Known for never revealing his face, nor ever speaking a word, Snakes Eyes quickly became a fan-favorite character of the G.I. Joe brand and is among the most popular characters of the anti-terrorist organization. He also shares a special connection with Scarlett, who for a time was one of the group's only female members. As a assassin who's never afraid to go it alone, Snake Eyes often embarks on solo missions with his pet wolf, Timber, as his only companion. As a way of adding a familial twist to the character, Hasbro introduced Storm Shadow, a ninja who works for Cobra and is also Snake Eyes' blood brother. Stories involving Snake Eyes often have him squaring off against Storm Shadow, resulting in some of the most sword-tastic family-related spats children of all ages have ever seen.

Previously, there have been two films released under the G.I. Joe brand, including G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA  (2009) and G.I. JOE: RETALIATION (2013), the latter of which starred Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, Channing Tatum as Duke, and Bruce Willis as General Joe Colton. It's worth noting that Snake Eyes was featured in both films, as played by Darth Maul actor Ray Park. Unfortunately, neither of the two previous films belonging to the G.I. JOE franchise lit up the box office, and so plans are to re-tool famed-franchise by focusing first on a small number of its most popular characters.

Are you down for the idea of Paramount rebooting G.I. Joe? Is there another character in the famouse toyline that you would like to see get their own spinoff adventure? Let us know in the comments section below.
