American Gods, season 3, Starz

It may have taken a little longer than expected, but the second season of American Gods debuted on Starz just last week and it seems that the're already hungry for more. It's been announced that Starz has renewed the Neil Gaiman series for a third season and that a new showrunner has been selected to guide the continuing saga of the new and old gods.

Charles 'Chic' Eglee (The Shield) has been selected to serve as the new showrunner and executive producer for the upcoming season, making him the third showrunner on American Gods following Bryan Fuller & Michael Green on the first season and Jesse Alexander on the second. In a statement, American Gods author and executive producer Neil Gaiman said:

I’m thrilled American Gods has been renewed for a third season, and even more thrilled that I’m getting to work on it with Chic Eglee. Chic is the best partner-in-crime. We’ve been working for weeks now on the shape of the season and I’m delighted that he gets to carry the American Gods torch on to glory. Thank you to Fremantle, Starz and Amazon for having faith in the series, to Bryan, Michael and Jesse for bringing it this far, to all the cast and crew, and most of all to the viewers. It’s their love of the characters that took us to this point, and will take us on to the next chapter.

Although there were several years between the first and second seasons of American Gods, Neil Gaiman has hopes that the wait should not be as long for the third. "The problem that we had with season 2 was not all of the personal weirdness. The big problem was Starz delayed [the renewal] until they found out how people liked American Gods before they committed to a second series and it takes a certain amount of time to start a writers room you have to get it together and so forth," Gaiman said. "What I’m hoping is its less about how long it’s going to take season 3 than getting a season 4 once season 3 is underway so we can keep the writer’s room on and get the scripts written." Starz president of programming Carmi Zlotnik added, "Audiences continue to worship at the altar of American Gods and we are excited to be able to announce to all the true believers that there is more of this fantastical series to come. With Chic at the helm, the invaluable insight and contributions of Neil Gaiman and the undeniable talent of this dedicated cast and crew, we know that the show will continue to deliver on the vision and promise laid out in the novel." There we have it, more American Gods is on the way. How are you feeling about the second season so far?
