The Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs sequel will be a prequel

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The only thing more guaranteed to get a sequel than a superhero movie this day and age is an animated movie, as kids (well, their parents) shell out big bucks for anything that makes them ooo and ahh. That’s why they keep making Alvin and the Chipmunks movies.

But the latest film to get another go is CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS, which I did think was rather good, but how far can you really take the whole “food weather” concept for another film?

Everyone thought that the sequel was going to be based on the second book, Pickles in Pittsburgh, but not so, now the word is that the movie is going to be an all original “origin story.” An origin story? The origin of what? Didn’t we see the main character’s childhood and rise to scientific prowess in the first film?

The writers of the new film are John Francis Daley, who you may know as Sam Weir from Freaks and Geeks, and Jonathan Goldstein. The team wrote the upcoming HORRIBLE BOSSES, which is getting pretty rave reviews, and also BURT WONDERSTONE, a magician comedy starring Steve Carell.

You up for some more meatballs?
