The Fantastic Four, The Secret Service, and Assassin's Creed get new 2015 release dates

I opened a new savings account just for all of the money I will need to go to the movies in 2015 as three more films cement dates in the already year to end all years. First up is Josh Trank's reboot, THE FANTASTIC FOUR. The film still has not announced any formal cast members but is slated to start shooting soon. Because the movie appears to have as good a chance of any to compete during the summer months, Fox has decided to move the film from March 6, 2015 to June 19, 2015. The decision seems to be more focused on maximizing box office rather than shooting needs.

With that March date vacated, the studio will move Matthew Vaughn's latest comic book movie, THE SECRET SERVICE, from the previously announced November 11, 2014. THE SECRET SERVICE is in the middle of production now so that seems like an odd change. Unless there is trouble on the Mark Millar adaptation, my guess is that it was not quite the right fit for the Holiday movie season and fits better in the slower winter month.

Another movie positioning itself for Summer success is the ASSASSIN'S CREED movie starring Michael Fassbender. Previously set to close the Summer with a August 7, 2015 date, it will now go head to head with THE FANTASTIC FOUR on June 19th that year. Now, assuming both films look fantastic (no pun intended), which would you rather see that weekend? I am leaning towards Fassbender, but I have to see trailers first to decide.

Other release news include announced dates for Paul Feig's follow-up to THE HEAT and BRIDESMAIDS, the comedy SUSAN COOPER, which is slated for May 22, 2015 which will put it head to head with Brad Bird's TOMORROWLAND. That one should be an easy choice.

Kellan Lutz' HERCULES: THE LEGEND BEGINS also gets a release date of February 7, 2014 and will beat the Brett Ratner/Dwayne Johnson film HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS to theaters. I will wait on that one and see if The Rock can deliver.
