Sean Penn is truly a long lost member of The Cure in the clip and image from This Must Be the Place

Sean Penn looking a hell of a lot like Robert Smith from The Cure is certainly something to be intrigued by. The only thing we’ve really gotten out of his next film, THIS MUST BE THE PLACE is set pictures. Today an image (which is at the top) from the film as well as a clip has found its way online.

The film is directed by Paolo Sorrentino and stars Frances McDormand, Judd Hirsch, and Harry Dean Stanton. The plot of the film is pretty wild and actually something original– unless there’s another film about a retired rockstar going after a former Nazi officer that I don’t know about. One of my favorite details about this film is that David Byrne and Will Oldham are in charge of the music. In the clip below, I’m fairly confident that Oldham’s voice is the one you hear. The film will debut at Cannes next month.

“Cheyenne (Sean Penn) is a wealthy former rock star, now bored and jaded in his retirement in Dublin. He travels to New York to reconcile with his estranged father during his final hours, only to arrive too late. After learning the true extent of his father’s humiliation in Auschwitz at the hands of former SS Officer Aloise Lange, Cheyenne begins a journey across America to track down Lange, who is now hiding out in the US.”
