Tiffany Haddish reportedly in talks to lead the 21 Jump Street reboot

After much time was spent on the bizarre 21 JUMP STREET/MEN IN BLACK crossover movie (which, if I'm being honest, I still want to see), focus then shifted towards a female-driven reboot of the franchise. As for who could possibly replace Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as high-school infiltration "experts," Collider has said that Tiffany Haddish is reportedly in talks to star in the film.

Since her break-out appearance in GIRL'S TRIP just last year, Tiffany Haddish has damn near exploded, with roles in UNCLE DREW, THE OATH, NIGHT SCHOOL, and NOBODY'S FOOL in 2018, and 2019 will see her appearing in THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART, LIMITED PARTNERS, THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2, and THE KITCHEN. Should the actress sign on, Collider has heard that Haddish may not be infiltrating a high-school as a student, but rather as a teacher or perhaps a mother of a new student who also happens to be an undercover cop. Word is that Sony is looking at Awkwafina (CRAZY RICH ASIANS) for that other undercover role as they've been big fans of the actress for some time and are also reportedly considering her for a role in the JUMANJI sequel.

While speaking with Variety in October, Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch commented on the 21 JUMP STREET reboot, saying "We think that there’s something fun about keeping that irreverent spirit of ‘Jump Street,’ but maybe having it be told through a female undercover cop point-of-view. We’ve had enough male buddy comedies. The script is really funny and has a freshness to it." 22 JUMP STREET co-writer Rodney Rothman is slated to write and direct the new 21 JUMP STREET reboot.
