Trailer and clips released for thriller Detour starring Tye Sheridan

Tye Sheridan is having a good few years. First he played in acclaimed indie fair like TREE OF LIFE, MUD, and JOE, then recently played CYCLOPS in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, and is now currently starring in the highly-anticipated READY PLAYER ONE adaptation from Steven Spielberg. Now he has the indie thriller DETOUR coming out. Here's a trailer:

So the film has a cool split-screen gimmick that looks stylish in that post-Tarantino/Guy Richie '90s way. Which isn't necessarily a detriment (many fun films came out of that era). Hopefully the film can manage its style and tone, and not get too far up its own ass (unlike most Tarantino knock-offs). Anyway, here's the synopsis:

Harper (Tye Sheridan), a seemingly naive law student, obsesses over the idea that his shifty stepfather was involved in the devastating car crash that left his mother hospitalized and comatose. He drowns his suspicions in whiskey until he finds himself suddenly engrossed in conversation with volatile grifter Johnny (Emory Cohen) and his stripper companion, Cherry (Bel Powley). As daylight breaks and the haziness of promises made becomes clearer, how will Harper handle the repercussions (not to mention the violent duo—on his doorstep)? Employing a split-narrative structure to tell this tale of deception and murder, Christopher Smith takes his audience on a thrill ride full of hairpin turns, where it’s never quite clear what or who can be trusted.

And here some more clips from the film:

DETOUR comes out today, in select theaters, January 20th, 2017.

Extra Tidbit: Tye Sheridan is the second actor to play a young Cyclops in the X-MEN films, as that role was previously played by Tim Pocock in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE.
