Troma co-founder Lloyd Kaufman will have a small part in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy

The cast lined up for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is interesting to say the least, especially for a big budget comic book movie. It's an odd mix of well known actors (Glenn Close, the just announced Benicio del Toro and the still possible John C. Reilly), up-and-comers (Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace) and yet they still have room for a "Hey, it's that guy!" actor (Michael Rooker) and…um…Dave Bautista. I've been trying to think of another movie that had such a quirky cast and the closest comparison I can come up with is SOUTHLAND TALES.

Well the cast just got a little weirder, although it'll only be for a minor role in the film. In an interview with Crave Online, Troma Entertainment co-fonder and writer/director/producer Lloyd Kaufman revealed that he will be in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Director James Gunn has roots with the studio (his first film was the Troma classic TROMEO AND JULIET) and Kaufman will also be helping behind the scenes for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY like he did for two other films by James Gunn:

Yeah, he’s giving me a part. I’m going to be in his movie. I’m going to London at the end of June to play a small part…We’ll see what happens. James is a good guy. I think it’ll be interesting just to see what it’s like and I’ll shoot some behind the scenes. I did it for Slither, I did it for Super. I did two pieces for Super.

Since the film will be CGI heavy we might not even recognize Kaufman in the film depending on what his part will be but I think it's pretty awesome of Gunn to include him in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Will Lloyd Kaufman appearance make people flock to theaters? Not at all. But as a film nerd I'll definitely be looking for Kaufman when I see the movie next year.

Unfortunately there's still no news on who is going to play Rocket Raccoon. Sorry everybody.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will be released on August 1st, 2014.
