Watch Taron Egerton, Elton John perform Tiny Dancer together at Oscar party

In three months, we’ll get to watch Taron Egerton (KINGSMAN) step onto the stage in all manner of exuberant costumes as Elton John in the musical biopic ROCKETMAN. However, if you absolutely cannot wait another second to see him belt some classic John songs on stage then you’re in luck, because on Oscar Sunday the actor took to the stage alongside none other than John himself to perform one of the icon’s most beloved songs, “Tiny Dancer,” during an Oscar party that no doubt made your own look like a child’s party at a failing Chuck E. Cheese.

The duet happened at John’s 27th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party during an auction for the opportunity to go to the London premiere of the movie. Egerton was asked if he would come up and sing a song for the crowd, to which Egerton responded that he only would if John would come up and play the piano. The stars aligned, and the two got on stage and gave the audience a magical, once in a lifetime show that they proceeded to watch through their smartphones.

Okay, that's just all kinds of sweet. Even Egerton can't really contain his feelings at the beginning, looking like he's about to cry — and for good reason. The actor has been making a name for himself over the years in slick action flicks like KINGSMAN, but here he really gets to show off his range (and his pipes) and prove himself a real leading man capable of anything you put in front of him. He's got the pipes and John seems to like him, which is a good sign for the movie.

Here's the synopsis:

ROCKETMAN is an epic musical fantasy about the incredible human story of Elton John’s breakthrough years. The film follows the fantastical journey of transformation from shy piano prodigy Reginald Dwight into international superstar Elton John. This inspirational story – set to Elton John’s most beloved songs and performed by star Taron Egerton – tells the universally relatable story of how a small-town boy became one of the most iconic figures in pop culture. ROCKETMAN also stars Jamie Bell as Elton’s longtime lyricist and writing partner Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as Elton’s first manager, John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton’s mother Sheila Farebrother.

ROCKETMAN is in theaters May 31.
