Yet another mutant is returning for X-Men: Days of Future Past

Boy, I thought we were done with announcing more characters being added to X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, but it looks like at the very least we have one more to add to the roster. MTV learned that young actor Evan Jonigkeit will be playing a younger version of Toad. Toad, the maligned and cheesy supporting villain, was previously played by Ray Park in Bryan Singer‘s original X-MEN. From the sounds of it, Jonigkeit will be playing Toad during the FIRST CLASS time period and give us a “darker” take on the comic character.

Based on Jonigkeit’s limited filmography (short films and soap opera work), I would think this is a small role used to flesh out the mutant world of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. This doesn’t prohibit the role from being expanded for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, but with the already bursting at the seams cast for the movie, I would opt to think this is a smaller role.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST has been adding characters as often as roles like Anna Paquin‘s Rogue have been cut for story reasons. I just hope that the final product lives up to the potential that we have all built for it based on the teaser trailer alone.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halley Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman and Lucas Till. It hits theaters on May 23, 2014.
