Zack Snyder is all about 300-ifying George Washington

Right now, whenever Zack Snyder opens his mouth and something Superman or Batman comes out, everyone is all over it trying to sift through every last detail for some hidden gem. Hell, if Snyder were to sneeze and Superman or Batman snot were to come flying out, we’d all be there to wipe it up. (Sorry for the gross visual.)

But with BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE almost here, let’s take a break from what he’s got going on in the DC Cinematic Universe and focus on another of his truly bizarre ideas that is getting lost in the shuffle while we focus on Metropolis and Gotham. Zack Snyder wants to make a 300-style George Washington movie… and no, I am 100% absolutely not shitting you.

Bloomberg recently did a piece on Snyder during which the filmmaker made a comment on a particular print that hangs on the wall in his office – Emanuel Leutze’s Washington Crosses the Delaware. Turns out that it isn’t there simply for decoration but also inspiration as every time Snyder takes a glance at it, he thinks to himself, “I can turn that into a movie.”

“We were talking about it,” Snyder says. “The first thing we asked was, well, how are we going to make it look? I pointed at this painting. It looks like 300. It’s not that hard.”

I realize there is a great amount of hate for anything Snyder does on some sort of general principle that people don’t like the guy or whatever he then does. And I realize that the idea of a 300-style flick of George Washington crossing the Delaware River sounds batshit crazy… But doesn’t that almost then turn such a ridiculous idea into the kind of movie you’d one day like to see get made? Isn’t it so strange and so out there that your curiosity needs to see it come to fruition, if for no other reason than to witness how it’d turn out? I know I’d be on-board with giving this film a good look because… well, it’s too insane not to.

Granted, Zack Snyder is a little busy with building the DC Cinematic Universe right now, but one day… one day… Maybe we’ll all get to realize this wild dream.
