The Hollywood Reporter has announced this morning that the busty Brittany Murphy, who has had a string of genre-related flicks lately including DEADLINE and ACROSS THE HALL, has signed on to star in the upcoming horror flick THE CALLER from director Mathew Parkhill.
So what can we expect from THE CALLER? Check it: When troubled divorcee, Mary Kee, begins to receive mysterious phone calls from an unknown caller she quickly begins to feel haunted in her own home. When she discovers that the person is calling from the past, Mary realizes that she will have to kill her in order to survive but how do you kill someone living in the past and what will happen if she fails.
Written by Sergio Casci, THE CALLER is being closely compared to J-Horror flicks like THE GRUDGE and THE RING. Because the of the title? Not really sure, but I think the synopsis sounds pretty damn cool, and somewhat original. Can’t say that about too many movies these day, so maybe this one will be a refreshing change of pace.
TRUE BLOOD’s Stephen Moyer and the great Luis Guzma (BOOGIE NIGHTS, WAITING) have also signed on to star in the flick which is set to begin filming in Puerto Rico on Friday.
