Netflix drops first trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7

If you watched last night's L.A. Rams-Dallas Cowboys football game, you got to see the first teaser trailer for Netflix's THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7. The political drama, from Aaron Sorkin, is based on the true story of the historic clash between peaceful protestors and authorities during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Needless to say, the film couldn't be any more timely. 

Sorkin's storytelling vibes are pretty present in the trailer which features bits and pieces of the story that made history as the world watched. Written and directed by Sorkin, the film chronicles a peaceful protest that was set to take place at the 1968 DNC.  The protest quickly turned into a confrontation between the protestors and police and the National Guard and the organizers of the protest, including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden, and Bobby Seale, were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.

The film, which was set to debut in theaters pre-COVID, is stacked with a cast full of talent that includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp, Jeremy Strong, Noah Robbins, Danny Flaherty, Ben Shenkman, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Caitlin Fitzgerald, Alice Kremelberg, John Doman, J.C. MacKenzie, Damien Young, Wayne Duvall and C.J. Wilson. The film is produced by Marc Platt, Stuart Besser, Matt Jackson, and Tyler Thompson.

I'm sure this film will have everyone talking. Not only because a critical election is coming up in November but we're currently experiencing protests taking place across the U.S. and it has been a topic of debate when perceived peaceful protests, turn violent. It's a particularly touchy subject and to have a film like this coming out as this topic is very much in the news, will only add more spotlight to the growing debate.
