Netflix snags Efron/Bundy flick Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Director Joe Berlinger's EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE starring Zac Efron as Ted Bundy just hit Sundance a week or so ago, and today we already have word that none other than the streaming giant supreme, Netflix, has snatched up the distribution rights to the sure-to-be-controversial movie. It's said that Netflix shelled out a cool $9 million for the rights and that their plan is to give the movie an awards season theatrical run. The film is then expected to debut on the service sometime after that. We'll let you know as soon as we hear more concrete plans.

Until then, let us know how excited you are to see Efron as Bundy below! Here's the synopsis for those of you who may have forgotten:

Told through the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy's longtime girlfriend who went years denying the accusations against Bundy, but ultimately turned him into the police. Only nearing his execution, when Bundy began talking about his extensive and heinous murders, did Kloepfer, and the rest of the world, learn the true scope of his numerous and grizzly murders.

I think it's safe to say that all of us here today know Netflix is the best place for this film. After all, the streaming giant just put out the hit documentary series CONVERSATIONS WITH A KILLER: THE TED BUNDY TAPES and this seems like it will make for a killer companion piece to that film.

EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE is directed by Berlinger (BLAIR WITCH 2) from a script by Michael Werwie and stars John Malkovich, Lily Collins, Kaya Scodelario, Angela Sarafyan, Jeffrey Donovan, Jim Parsons, Metallica's James Hetfield, and Efron as Ted Bundy. The movie has been snatched up by Netflix and we will let you know as soon as we hear word on when the streaming giant plans to unleash the film on the world. Until then, let us know how excited you are to see Efron as Bundy below!
