New Middle Men trailer looks at the dawn of internet porn as we know it today

Back in January of 2009, JoBlo.com got the chance to visit the set of George Gallo’s MIDDLE MEN, a film that chronicles the real-life events of producer Christopher Mallick (represented in the film by Luke Wilson), the man responsible for the monetization of porn on the internet. During that visit – a trip to the links and the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel in Las Vegas – we got a peak at the filming of the movie as well as a brief look at Giovanni Ribisi and Gabriel Macht as their troubled characters Wayne and Buck.

Well thanks to the good folks at Paramount, last night I had a chance to attend a special reception on the rooftop of the London West Hollywood Hotel where myself and a handful of journalists got a first look at the trailer you’ll see below. In attendance were producers Christopher Mallick, William Sherak, Jason Shuman, Saliza Somani, Michael Weiss, Andy Weiss (who also co-wrote the film), writer/director George Gallo, and stars Gabriel Macht and Giovanni Ribisi. Ribisi gave me the funniest look as if we’d known each other for a long time. I told him he was crazy and proceeded to down my fourth vodka and soda of the night.

Though most of our conversations were off the record (which is sad, because there are some crazy/funny stories to be told), the filmmakers did describe MIDDLE MEN as being something akin to Ted Demme’s BLOW and Paul Thomas Anderson’s BOOGIE NIGHTS. That’s some very good company.

MIDDLE MEN spreads its legs wide on August 6th. See the trailer below or head on over to Apple to check it in HD!

Synopsis: In 1995, everyone had a VCR, music was sold in record stores, and the world-wide-web was a new found discovery. Businessman Jack Harris (Luke Wilson) had the perfect life – a beautiful family and a successful career fixing problem companies. And then he met Wayne Beering (Giovanni Ribisi) and Buck Dolby (Gabriel Macht), two genius but troubled men, who had invented the way adult entertainment is sold over the internet. When Jack agrees to help steer their business, he soon finds himself caught between a 23 year-old porn star and the FBI all the while becoming one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs of his time. Inspired by a true story that proves business is a lot like sex: getting in is easy, pulling out is hard.
