New television spots have been released for three movies that will duke it out in theaters this summer for some of that sweet box office gold: PACIFIC RIM, R.I.P.D. and THE LONE RANGER. Each film has the potential to be a big hit but there's also a risk that each film could be a huge bomb.

Let's take a look at PACIFIC RIM. The mechs vs giant monster movie from director Guillermo Del Toro probably has the best chance out of these three films of making some serious bucks at the box office and it looks like it will be a fantastic popcorn movie to watch this summer. And who doesn't love Charlie Day? I'll tell you who: bastards. PACIFIC RIM will try to save humanity on July 12th, 2013.

When an alien attack threatens the Earth's existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace.

I've heard people comparing the trailers for R.I.P.D. starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges as "HELLBOY meets MEN IN BLACK" and I completely agree with that comparison. I do kind of wish the film had a darker tone instead of a fun feel it seems to have and the trailers haven't excited me too much thus far. Sure Bridges looks like he's having a blast but I hope the rest of the movie delivers as well. R.I.P.D. also stars Kevin Bacon and Mary-Louise Parker and will be out on July 19th, 2013.

When Nick Cruz (Ryan Reynolds) dies in the line of duty, he is taken to join the undead police division and was assigned to be the partner of Roy Pulsifer (Jeff Bridges), a veteran officer of the R.I.P.D – Rest In Peace Department, a department of dead police force dedicated to protect and serve the living from the souls who refuse to move into the afterlife.

Then there's THE LONE RANGER. You know that saying that if it looks like shit, smells like shit and feels like shit, then it must be shit? Well THE LONE RANGER looks, smells and feels like this year's JOHN CARTER to me. That isn't a critique of the film itself but like JOHN CARTER, THE LONE RANGER has a ridiculous budget (unnecessarily high in my opinion) and with enthusiasm for the film meh at best it just doesn't appear that the film will be able to meet the expectations that I'm sure Disney had for the movie when it was originally planned. THE LONE RANGER with Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, William Fichtner and Helena Bonham Carter gallops into theaters on July 3rd, 2013.

The Lone Ranger is an action film in which the masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. An American Indian spirit warrior, Tonto (Johnny Depp), recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice. The two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.
