Rumor: Robert Orci not directing Star Trek 3; Edgar Wright could take over

star trek 3

Somewhat breaking news tonight as it sounds like Roberto Orci is no longer directing STAR TREK 3. The film would mark the directorial debut for the writer who worked with Alex Kurtzman on the STAR TREK reboot and its sequel directed by J.J. Abrams. When Orci and Kurtzman broke up as creative partners earlier this year, Orci took the directing gig, but now Skydance and Paramount are looking for a new director Deadline reports.

Deadline goes on to say that Orci will stay on as a producer and that Paramount’s shortlist of possible new candidates to direct includes Edgar Wright. At this point we don’t know why the decision was made, but staying on as producer could indicate a mutual parting. We will keep you posted on any new details about the change up and better yet, any STAR TREK 3 news. As of now we don’t know much about the movie other than that Orci was writing with Patrick McKay and John D. Payne, and that the film was set to go into production early next year for a 2016 release just in time for Trek's 50th anniversary.

What do you think about the possible change up? Any other name(s) besides Wright’s that you would put on the list?

Zoe Saldana
For those unhappy with the news, Zoe Saldana can make it better.
